• MiddlePen Plantation or Donald Bruce House

This house was built in 1735 by John Fisher. It was used as headquarters by Governor John Rutledge and Commander Rowdon. The house was later sold to Benjamin Simmons around the mid 19th century before the Civil War. After this, the house was named MiddlePen Plantation due to its proximity to a plantation site. The Orangeburg County Fine Art Center is home to varieties of artworks detecting several aspects of human life. There are several galleries in the center. • Hawthorne School of Aeronautics

The Hawthorne School of Aeronautics was established in 1941 during the Second World War. The primary purpose of its establishment was to train pilots for the American troops. During this time, over 4000 troops were trained. The school became closed soon after the war ended, and the site became home for the aged. Today, it’s known as the Oaks, Retirement Community.
